Kimber Intercepts 7 Metres of 18.3 g/t Gold and 374.3 g/t Silver in New Structure Discovered at Monterde - Kimber Resources Inc. (TSX: KBR.TO - News)(AMEX: KBX - News) is pleased to announce ongoing drill results from an additional 14 drill holes at its Monterde gold/silver project in Mexico, including eight holes drilled at Carmen and six holes drilled at Veta Minitas. Of particular interest is drill hole MTC-142A, which intersected a new structure containing 7 metres of 18.3 g/t gold and 374.3 g/t silver. This wide and high-grade gold-silver intersection is located northeast of other known structures in the Carmen deposit and is believed to be a parallel or semi-parallel structure to the current structures that make up the Carmen deposit. The new structure has been named "Cocos" and is geologically different from the other structures at Carmen being characterized by bright white quartz and quartz breccia, not the silicification seen in other gold-silver mineralized structures at Carmen. In addition, from the review of Cocos core samples, the base metal sulphides occur as thin veinlets and are finer grained than the sulphides encountered in the Carmen structure in hole MTRD-476 (which intersected 4.9 metres of 78.4 g/t gold and 127.9 g/t silver, as announced May 31, 2011). Also significant is hole MTRD-512 which intersected 8.6 g/t gold and 326.2 g/t silver over 5m in the footwall of the Cob structure. More

Kinross in Play After Paying Too Much in African Gold: Real M&A - "By paying too much for acquisitions in western Africa, Kinross Gold Corp. (KGC) is now turning itself into the cheapest gold-mining target in the world.

Kinross, Canada’s third-largest gold producer, fell by the most in almost two decades after saying this week it will write down the value of its Tasiast mine in Mauritania. The company sells for 76 cents per dollar of net assets, versus the industry median of 2.5 times, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Writing off the excess $4.6 billion it spent on Tasiast would still leave Kinross at a 50 percent discount to its competitors." More

Pan American Silver Comments on Changes to Mining Legislation in Rio Negro, Argentina - "Pan American Silver Corp. (TSX: PAA.TO - News)(NASDAQ: PAAS - News) ("Pan American" or the "Company") owns 100% of the Calcatreu gold development project ("Calcatreu" or the "Project"), located in the Province of Rio Negro, in Argentina. Since acquiring the Project in early 2010 as part of the purchase of Aquiline Resources, the Company has performed only a modest amount of new work due to the fact that Rio Negro had banned the use of sodium cyanide, which is critical to the recovery of gold from Calcatreu's mineral resource.

On December 29, 2011, Rio Negro's provincial legislature passed law Nr. 4738, which among other things, allows for the use of chemical substances, including sodium cyanide, in mineral processing. The new law replaced law 3981 that limited mining activity. The new legislation was signed, published and enacted into law on January 9, 2012 and it also established the evaluation process for the filing and approval of an Environmental Impact Assessment ("EIA"), which is necessary to mine and process minerals in the province." Golden Star Reports Preliminary Fourth Quarter Operational Results - "Golden Star Resources Ltd. (AMEX: GSS - News) (TSX: GSC.TO - News) (GHANA: GSR) ("Golden Star" or the "Company") today announced preliminary fourth quarter production results for its Bogoso/Prestea and Wassa/HBB operations.

Production for the fourth quarter of 2011 was 70,738 ounces of gold compared with the guidance of 80,000 ounces. As mentioned in the November conference call, Bogoso/Prestea operations were impacted by the necessity of having to temporarily shut down the sulfide plant and clean out the BIOX® section's blower manifolds in October. Our efforts to catch up to guidance later in the quarter were affected at both mines by intermittent grid power outages and at Bogoso/Prestea by the low mechanical availability of the BIOX® section due to failures of agitators and gearboxes. Wassa was impacted throughout the fourth quarter by wet oxide ores from the high grade Hwini-Butre pits, which caused continuous blockages in the crusher section of the processing plant." More

The agency said that while investigations continue into the exact causes of the accident, it appears the miners didn't have enough oxygen to breathe while inside the mine.
